It certainly appears that the overwhelmingly negative political ads on television and radio are just getting worse and even childish.

Is it that politicians and their advisers do not think it is possible to win an election on intelligent platforms and merit?

What does it say about the public in general if the most effective way to get attention and votes is with mudslinging and dirt?

It might be refreshing if there was a way to pass a law with teeth that would permit any candidates to speak only of themselves, the issues and how they as leaders would impact current and potential situations.

Although this may not fully adhere to freedom-of-speech guidelines, it could make for refreshingly different debates and campaigns.

As for now, the manure shovel will remain next to the television until further notice.
