One last comment on the liberal vs. conservative definition debate: The point is that we need them both to run a healthy government.

What we don’t need is Garrison Keillor telling us on the op-ed page in his charming, disarming way that Southern conservative politicians are dreadful idiots or Rush Limbaugh spouting that liberals don’t think we deserve to win the war.

I suppose the news media think this amusing rhetoric sells papers, but it cheapens the respect that we all ought to have for well-intentioned Americans with opposing views.

I have found over the years that the best person for the job can be from either party. Sen. Joe Lieberman and our ex-Sen. Peter Fitzgerald are two good examples.

I urge all voters to look to the person running for office. Is the person an honest person? Is the person’s heart in the right place? Does the person love our country and wish us all well, even if we are from the opposing party? Does the person want to do a good job?
