Three men have been charged in an early Saturday morning assault in DeKalb on a Northern Illinois University student, though none of the alleged attackers was in custody Wednesday evening.

Martell Hunter, 18, Christopher Jones, 24, and Gregory Daniels, 20, were each charged Wednesday with two counts of aggravated battery, according to DeKalb County State’s Atty. Ron Matekaitis and university officials.

Hunter, an NIU student who lived on campus, was additionally charged with one count of robbery and will face $50,000 bail once he is arrested. Jones and Daniels, both of Chicago, will face $30,000 bail and each has outstanding warrants, Matekaitis said.

Freshman Justin Pisellini, 19, was hospitalized for bruises and fractures on his face and had a shoe print on his forehead, according to his mother, Laurie Pisellini. He was later released from the hospital.

The incident began about 3 a.m. Saturday when a group of students, including Pisellini, left their dorm to pick up a pizza. As they walked back, a vehicle approached, said Melanie Magara, spokeswoman for the university.

“They were stopped by a group of people in a car. They first talked to them about where they got the pizza, but things apparently escalated into demands,” she said. “One student was severely injured.”
