Barbara W. Nelson, age 74, of Munster, passed away Oct. 25, 2006 at Hartsfield Village Care Center. Preceded in death by her husband, Donald; and her brother, Jerry Williams. She is survived by two sons, Don (Lorna) Nelson of Crown Point and William (Becky) Nelson of Deer Park, IL; four grandchildren, Donald III, Kalyn, Ryan and Aubrey Nelson; one brother-in-law, Richard (Karen) Nelson of Munster; sister-in-law, Carolyn (William) Lichtsinn of Scottsdale, AZ and Alta Bee Williams of Lady Lake, FL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was fondly known to her grandchildren, “Honey.” Barbara served as Munster Junior Women’s Club President of the Indiana Federation of Clubs and also served as President of the Munster Women’s Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hammond and was a member of the Society of F.B.I. Alumni Chicago Chapter. Barbara has been called to sing in the Heavenly Choir. According to her late brother, Jerry Williams, one of her vocal instructors said ” You will never be an opera star, but will be a good voice in a church choir.” Although her voice is silent now she will be remembered for her cheery greetings, “put on your hat and coat, button up your coat, wear your socks, close the door, don’t drive to fast, and if it isn’t broken don’t fix it.” Even a broken watch is right twice a day, time is valuable use it wisely. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church, 6635 Hohman Ave., Hammond with Pastor Pete Ward officiating. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary. Friends may meet with her family Friday, Oct. 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the McCoy Funeral Chapel, 5713 Hohman Ave., Hammond. 219-931-1057.
