At 6 feet 3 inches, Ross Lane offers a big target for quarterbacks. The sophomore from Ft. Myers, Fla., moved into a starting role this season, and his 16 catches trail only wideout Shaun Herbert (30) and running back Tyrell Sutton (17). He has 232 receiving yards and caught two TD passes in Saturday’s loss to Michigan State. “When the lights come on, Ross makes plays,” coach Pat Fitzgerald said. “I’ve worked as hard as everyone else, and my time came,” Lane said. . . . Center Trevor Rees is back from the leg strain that forced him out of the MSU game, when he was replaced by Adam Crum. . . . Sutton’s 6.1 yards per rush is the Big Ten’s best among the nine runners who have gained at least 450 yards.
