With one loss already on their record and sitting ninth in the Bowl Championship Series standings, the Irish know their hopes of playing for a national championship this season are extremely remote. But they’re hoping that their loss to Michigan, which has climbed to No. 2 in the BCS standings and the AP poll, will improve their standing in the weeks to come. “It’s still tough just to look back and see that loss at home. Definitely after playing [the Wolverines], we all felt that they were a solid team,” Notre Dame safety Tom Zbikowski said. “Hopefully they will keep winning. It’s tough, just cheering for a team that beat you earlier in the year.”
