I think this change has been long overdue (“Blue bags sacked,” Oct. 25 cover story). I am confident that the bins/carts will be a more effective alternative. Unfortunately, too few people are concerned enough about recycling to go out of their way to buy the blue bags, or too many are justifiably skeptical of the program.
However, the experiment in Beverly has shown that the bins will provoke people to recycle more when it is made more convenient. I hope the administration starts making the changes sooner than later. It’s a good start, but it sounds like we’re still a ways off from getting bins across the city.
