All those clamoring for the Blackhawks to televise their home games were likely reminded of that old adage Saturday night: Be careful what you wish for.

The 3-0 loss to Anaheim wasn’t exactly must-see TV. The loss was the fourth in a row for the Hawks and the second straight game in which they’ve been shut out.

The Hawks haven’t scored since Adrian Aucoin’s goal in the second period Oct. 21 against St. Louis. That’s 145 minutes 10 seconds and includes 1:50 early in Saturday’s second period when the Hawks had a two-man advantage and managed just one shot on goal.

“We should have been better there,” Aucoin said. “We talked about the five-on-three earlier, but we just didn’t execute well.”

The Hawks believed the game turned early in the second period, when Brent Seabrook’s shot got past goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. Referee Chris Rooney made no call as the puck was swept out of the net while the Hawks were congratulating each other thinking they’d scored.

The play was reviewed, and league officials ruled the puck hadn’t completely crossed the goal line.

“The disallowed goal was more hurtful than the five-on-three,” coach Trent Yawney said. “It was clearly in from our [TV] feed.”

– Tuomo Ruutu will make his season debut Monday night in Philadelphia.
