As in every election season, we have been seeing letters to the editor and editorials urging everyone to vote. While superficially logical and appealing, this notion is naive, misguided and not beneficial to a healthy democratic system. I don’t want people voting who are either too uninformed to cast a meaningful ballot or indifferent to the political process. Better not to have their “opinions” registered than to force them into voting. This is the folly of mandatory voting laws. If they don’t vote, they forfeit their right to be represented. So be it.
