Illinois sophomore guard Jamar Smith will have a lot of chances to work on his shooting the next two weeks. Monday night’s home game with Austin Peay State is the first of eight games during a 15-day span. A reserve last season, Smith made 47 percent of his shots and his 48.2 mark beyond the arc made him the Big Ten’s most accurate three-point shooter. But as a starter in this season’s exhibition victories over Lewis and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Smith’s shooting was off. He missed 7 of 19 field-goal attempts, giving him 36.8 percent marksmanship in the two games. From three-point land, he was 0-for-8 against Lewis before improving to 2-for-4 against SIU-Edwardsville.
