Actor, writer, director and producer Quincy Wong played many roles on stage here, and in television, film and advertisements during his all-too-brief career, which ended four years ago when he died at 48. One of the roles Wong prized most was that of activist, promoting the talent of Asian Pacific-American artists and fighting typecasting. “He was intent on changing stereotypes of Asian men,” Channel 2’s Joanie Lum said of Wong. For his dedication, Wong’s family hosted an “All About Quincy” benefit dinner at the Hilton Chicago celebrating an endowment fund for scholarships and the naming of the Quincy Wong Center for Artistic Expression at Columbia College. The fund, created by the Wong family, has raised $75,000 of the targeted $100,000, said Philip Wong, Quincy’s brother. “The next Quincy Wong will come from Columbia,” said Mark Kelly, vice president of student affairs. “This endowment will help make that possible.”
