Tribune Co. reported Monday that its October revenue dropped 1 percent from a year ago, to $427.7 million. That brings revenue for the first 10 months of the year to $4.48 billion, a 1.6 percent decline from the 2005 period.
Good news came from the broadcasting and entertainment segment, which produced an 8.4 percent gain for the month, to $110.8 million. Year-to-date revenue was still down 1.4 percent, to $1.18 billion.
In publishing, which includes the Chicago Tribune, October revenue dropped 3.9 percent, to $316.9 million.
National advertising continued to be a problem, sliding 15.5 percent. So far this year, national advertising is off almost 9 percent, helping explain why year-to-date publishing revenue is down 1.7 percent, to $3.3 billion.
