Teen charged with shooting officer
A South Side teenager was charged Wednesday with shooting a Chicago police officer Monday afternoon, police said. Roscoe Woods, 17, faces felony charges of aggravated battery and attempted murder. Police said he shot a 36-year-old officer near Clemente High School on Monday after school let out. The officer, who was hit in the elbow, was treated and released that evening.

Man guilty of stealing disaster aid
Days after Hurricane Katrina, Hussnian Ahmad walked into a Red Cross office in Chicago and claimed to be a displaced victim from New Orleans. In fact, he had never set foot in Louisiana. On Wednesday, Ahmad pleaded guilty to stealing more than $6,800 in disaster aid from FEMA. Sentencing is set for Feb. 20. Ahmad, 33, faces up to 8 months in prison, prosecutors said.

Fire hits museum train exhibit
Visitors to Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry were moved away from a train exhibit Wednesday afternoon after a small electrical fire, a fire official said. A transformer associated with The Great Train Story exhibit caused the fire about 11:15 a.m. The fire, which was on train tracks not visible to visitors, was put out immediately and presented no danger, museum officials said.

Red Line trains delayed
Red Line trains were delayed during the evening rush Wednesday because of a loss of power between 27th and 39th streets, but service was restored at about 6:30 p.m. CTA spokeswoman Wanda Taylor said power had to be turned off because of some debris on the tracks. A bus shuttle operated in both directions between the Cermak-Chinatown and the 47th Street stations during the outage.
