By the year 2030, New York City could be so overpopulated that there won’t be enough electricity and housing for the city’s residents, and rush hour could become an all-day affair. The city will need thousands more housing units, which have to be affordable. Currently, a third of city renters spend more than half their income for rent.

Subway system and roadways will be “crammed beyond capacity,” so the system must be updated.

Energy supply might not meet demand by 2012, and the city needs to tap into alternative energy sources and modernize its grid before 2030, when most of its plants will be over 50 years old.
