So, does Leonardo DiCaprio walk the red carpet at the Golden Globes twice? Or maybe change outfits midway through?

The actor finds himself in the enviable–if not awkward–position of competing against himself for awards recognition. On Thursday, he was nominated for Golden Globe awards in the best dramatic film actor category for his roles in “The Departed” and “Blood Diamond” (see the full list of nominees on pages 46-47). Both are considered lead performances, as they may be when Oscar nominations are announced.

“We’re in the process right now of figuring it out,” DiCaprio told the L.A. Times, adding, “I’m really proud of both of these movies.”

The actor doesn’t make very many movies–just three over the last three years. For “Blood Diamond,” he spent weeks in military training, and an equal time researching local accents and idioms.

“He’s got a curious mind, and he always wanted to know more,” said “Blood Diamond” director Ed Zwick.

DiCaprio said he can’t do it any other way. “If I didn’t have pages of slang, then it would be a pretty uncomfortable experience–it’s like the nightmare of arriving at school without any clothes on,” he said. “And that’s why it’s hard for me to go from a movie to a movie” without time off between projects.

Well, he can talk about his methods all he wants, but here at RedEye we only believe in cold, hard science. So we went to the lab to figure out what makes DiCaprio such a talented actor. Here’s the breakdown.

A STAR IS FORMED

8% Los Angeles upbringing

5% Avoiding Rob Schneider and The Rock

26% Preparation and attention to detail

24% Refusal to co-star with anyone who hasn’t won an Oscar

15% Script selection

13% Exclusively dating supermodels

9% Dreamy eyes and Three Musketeers-style facial hair

Off with her crown?

The organizers of the Miss USA pageant said Thursday they are evaluating the “behavioral and personal issues” of the reigning winner and will decide her future within a week.

Pageant officials and Donald Trump, who co-owns the Miss Universe Organization with NBC, would not say what Kentucky native Tara Conner, 20, had done to prompt the serious evaluation. “I can’t really talk about it now,” Trump said. “But we have to make a decision. There is no question about that.”

Gossip site tmz.com reported that pageant officials and NBC met Tuesday to discuss Conner’s alleged bad behavior, but did not name its sources.

Trump said if Conner gets the boot, runner-up Miss California Tamiko Nash would take over as Miss USA.

Bringing home baby

“It’s never boring or quiet in our home,” Heidi Klum tells People magazine–not since the birth of her third child, Johan, last month. Klum said she and husband Seal are “truly blessed to have three healthy children,” all of whom are younger than 3. But Johan’s big sister, 2-year-old Leni, chips in when she can, Klum said, helping sing lullabies for her baby brother.

No choice

Pamela Anderson took to that bastion of truth, Howard Stern’s satellite radio show, to shoot down rumors about her failed marriage to Kid Rock, Us Weekly reports on its Web site. Asked if her ex Tommy Lee came between them, Anderson said, “No, no, God no!” She also shot down rumors that her partying led to the divorce.

Losses and gains

Planning on resolving to lose a few pounds in the new year? How about 214? That’s how much “The Biggest Loser” winner Erik Chopin dropped, as revealed in Wednesday’s season finale. That earned him a $250,000 prize. “I have new energy,” the Long Island, N.Y., man said on Thursday’s “Today” show. “It just feels wonderful.”
