Firefighters do much more than fight fires. On Dec. 12, firefighters from the Chicago Fire Department at Pulaski and Peterson rescued four women and a small child caught for half an hour in a stalled elevator in a nearby medical building. We contacted the elevator company, which told us that help would come. Nothing happened. The firefighters, after a call to 911, responded in record speed. All I could say was, “I’m glad to see you.”
