Brad Maynard has been an unsung standout for this season’s Bears. He punted six times for an average of 47.7 yards Sunday, placing two inside the 20-yard line.
What sports did you play growing up?
Football, baseball and basketball.
No soccer?
No. I wanted to go to Indiana and play for Bob Knight–that’s what every kid who grew up in Indiana in that era did–until I found punting. That really took over as the favorite.
So basketball is still your favorite non-football sport to play?
Not anymore. Basketball can be dangerous for a punter, so golf is my favorite to play now.
What’s on the iPod when you work out?
I don’t have an iPod. I usually watch television. “SportsCenter” or the Golf Channel. Food Network occasionally.
Favorite game you’ve ever played in?
Definitely the Super Bowl. That one by far is probably the greatest game I ever played in.
You got a lot of action in that one (a Super Bowl-record 21 total punts as the Giants lost to the Ravens).
Lots of action. Wasn’t the best outcome, but that one stands out.
Toughest loss you’ve ever had as a player?
Oof. Recent memory? Miami Dolphins. That’s the one that hurts the most right now.
Favorite team right now not named Bears?
Tiger. I like watching Tiger.
Favorite pig-out food?
Pizza and chicken wings.
Last book you read?
John Daly’s “My Life In and Out of the Rough.”
Favorite movie?
“Sixth Sense” is one of them. “Primal Fear.” Some of those older movies with a big twist at the end that you didn’t see coming.
