Thank you for Mary Ann Weston’s commentary. She tells us that a recent visit to Bethlehem left her wondering: If Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem today, would they get in? Would they make it to the manger, or would the holy child be delivered at an Israeli checkpoint?

I can’t answer Weston’s question with a yes or no, but I can tell her that if Mary and Joseph made their journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem today, they would have to face a minimum of 10 checkpoints. Under these circumstances it’s very likely that if Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem today, that the holy child would be delivered at an Israeli checkpoint.
