James Boyd Patterson II, age 60, died January 2, 2007, at St. Mary’s Care Center after battling cancer. He was born on July 30, 1946, in Chicago, IL, to parents, Harold and Virginia, nee Larson Patterson. Jim graduated from Deerfield High School in Illinois, where he was a member of the swim team and an Eagle Scout. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1968 with a Bachelors Degree in Economics and History. He then worked as a VISTA volunteer in Tennessee and South Carolina. He returned to Chicago to earn his Master’s Degree in Urban Studies from the University of Chicago. In 1975, he met and married Peggy Streff. They celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary on August 23, 2006. Jim was the former director of The Greater West Side Development Corporation in Chicago and promoted inner-city economic development. He was an Economic Development Consultant at North Star Economics in Madison, WI. Jim was a die hard Cubs fan, always attended at least one Badger football game each season, and enjoyed fishing along the Encampment Wyoming River with his dog, Buster. He was an excellent photographer, loved the sunshine and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Patterson; daughter, Devon (Daniel) Statz; son, Sean Patterson; mother, Virginia (the late Harold) Patterson; sister, Barb (Chuck) Clarke; niece, Jennifer (fiance Chuck Steffen) Clarke; nephew, Brendan (Pam) Clarke; great nephew, Camdan; brother-in-law, Bill (Kathy) Streff; nieces and nephew: Amanda, Will and Kimberly Streff. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2007, at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2007, at Madison Christian Community Church, 7118 Old Sauk Road, Madison, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
