The Grayslake Greenery Garden Club is offering scholarships to Lake County high school and college students. The competition for up to $1,500 in scholarship money for students pursuing studies in horticulture-related fields such as landscape architecture, agriculture, forestry and floral design. The Friends of Volo Bog are offering two $1,000 college scholarships to Lake or McHenry County high school seniors and college students. One scholarship will go to a high school student interested in pursuing a natural science or environmental degree. District 30 will hold an open forum on the search for a new superintendent at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Maple School, 2370 Shermer Rd., Northbrook. School Exec Connect, an educational search firm, will assist. Supt. Linda Vieth will leave District 30 at the end of the school year to become superintendent of District 29 in Northfield.
Melissa Hirsch, Willowbrook School principal, will hold a Book Chat at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 23 in the school’s Learning Media Center, 2500 Happy Hollow Rd., Glenview. GRAYSLAKE COLLEGE OF LAKE COUNTY
The College of Lake County Foundation’s Heart of Gold gala on Oct. 28 raised $125,000 for student scholarships, $30,000 more than the previous year. The CLC Foundation awarded $500,000 in scholarships in 2005, assisting more than 700 students. The event, attended by nearly 300 people, honored retired Lake County Coroner Barbara Richardson, who was one of CLC’s first employees.
The College of Lake County’s homecoming is scheduled for Jan. 25 to Jan. 27. Alumni and friends of CLC are invited to attend men’s and women’s basketball games, a homecoming dance, a comedy show and a casino night. Campus tours will be given from 3 to 4 p.m. Jan. 25, followed by an alumni and faculty reception from 4 to 5 p.m. To attend the reception, call the alumni relations office at 847-543-2400.
