Forwards Antoine Walker and James Posey were deactivated for the Heat’s game Wednesday night against the Clippers because they didn’t meet a team conditioning goal.
Heat coach Pat Riley, who also announced Wednesday he was taking a medical leave of absence, said Walker and Posey might be back after one or two games. However, they could face suspension by Jan. 15 if the goals, which Posey said center around weight and body-fat mandates, were not met.
Neither player will travel with the Heat to Phoenix on Thursday, instead staying behind to work with team conditioning coach Bill Foran.
Posey said his deactivation stemmed from a rule the Heat has about body fat. He said his body fat is 9 percent, but Riley wanted it to be 8 percent.
