Grace J. Smith, age 97, died on Jan. 3, 2007, at Monroe Clinic Hospital. She was born on Sept. 23, 1909, near Millburn, IL. The youngest of six children of Albert E. and Grace (Stanley) Jack-longtime residents of Lake County, IL. Graduated from Waukegan High School in 1926. Graduated from the University of Illinois in 1932. She married Howard E. Smith, June 29, 1935, at the First Congregational Church in Waukegan, IL, and lived from that date to 1976, in Gurnee IL. In 1957, She was employed by Outboard Marine Corporation, S.A. in Nassau, Bahamas; and later, American Colloid Company of Skokie, IL; and International Mineral and Chemical Corporation of Skokie and Libertyville, IL. She retired to Monroe, WI in 1979. She is survived by two children, Marsha (Jerry Tecklin) Stone, of Nevada City, CA, and Neal G. (Lynne) Smith, of Ladysmith, Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. Memorials may be given in Grace’s name to the Monroe Arts Center, Monroe, WI. Private family services will be at a later date. Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, Monroe WI, is assisting the family.
