The death of a president is always a sad moment for all Americans. The recent passing of Gerald R. Ford is no exception, despite the fact that at age 93, it was not unexpected.

Perhaps the best way to remember President Ford’s legacy is to hope that as we begin the merry-go-round that is the presidential campaign in the coming year, the candidates will recall Ford’s humility, decency and grace under pressure.

Surely these traits have been sorely missing in recent campaigns and their return would be a welcome sight, as well as a wonderful tribute to a great American.
