You will never hear a wind speed report of 11 m.p.h. Wind speeds are measured in whole knots and then converted into miles per hour. Because one knot equals 1.15 miles per hour, 9 knots converts to 10 m.p.h. and 10 knots converts to 12 m.p.h.
