LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell will skip his senior season and enter the NFL draft. A news conference is scheduled Wednesday to announce the decision, ESPN reported Sunday.

Despite outplaying Brady Quinn in the Sugar Bowl, the 6-foot-6-inch, 260-pound Russell is still ranked behind the Notre Dame QB on the draft board of ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. But Kiper said that the Raiders may select Russell with the first pick.

– Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor, 32, said he will return for his 11th season, regardless of whom the team hires as coach. As recently as Friday, when Taylor was chosen as defensive player of the year, he was considering retirement.

“The day Tom Brady outruns me, I’ll retire,” Taylor joked on ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown,” “but that day’s not going to come quick.”

Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga interviewed Pete Carroll on Sunday in Costa Rica, where the USC coach is vacationing.

– Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard dislocated his right elbow and may not play next week.
