Carl Vitt, age 84, longtime resident of Homewood, IL, passed away on Friday, Jan. 5, at Hales Corner Care Center, Hales, WI. He was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, in the Roseland neighborhood. He served in the United States Navy as a Seabee, stationed in the Aleutians and South Pacific. It was in Homewood, where he raised his family and actively participated in Little League, Cub Scouts, Rotary and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. In 1972, Carl and Irene, opened Vitt’s Travel Center in Homewood, he enjoyed owning his own business and the opportunities to see the world by land, sea and air. Carl achieved over 30 wonderful years of travel before he developed Parkinson’s disease at the age of 80. He is survived by his loving wife Irene Vitt; loving father of Sandra (Van) Gilbert, Carl (Barbara) Vitt, Paul (Laura) Vitt, John (Susan) Vitt and Robert (Lisa) Vitt; and dearest grandfather of 16. Family and friends will be received at Ryan Funeral Home, 18022 Dixie Highway, Homewood, on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral Wednesday, 10 a.m. prayers, from the funeral home to St. Joseph’s Church, Mass 10:30 a.m. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Carmelite Order, Carmelite Provincial House, 1501 Winterbery Lane, Darien, IL 60561.
