As I listened to and watched the funeral services for President Gerald Ford on television, and heard all the wonderful things being said about him, one thought kept recurring to me. Why could they not have said some of those things while he was still alive and could have heard them?

He was much maligned as our 38th president (an officewhich he did not seek, but achieved by succession when Richard Nixon resigned in disgrace).

I always felt he was a decent man and, from all the eulogies I heard, my opinion was shared by many even though not voiced during his lifetime.

Rest in peace, President Ford. I wish you well.
