The Cubs’ next Neifi Perez, who was traded to Detroit near the end of last season, could be Tomas Perez, whom the club signed to a minor-league contract Friday.

The newest Perez, 33, can play all infield positions and will attend major-league camp with expectations that he will be a backup infielder. He played in 99 games with Tampa Bay last season, hitting .212.

But he started 99 games, including 33 games at shortstop, 18 at second base and 13 at third. He also has played in the outfield and first base.

Tomas Perez is a .240 career batter with 24 home runs for three different teams.
