Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

There is an awful lot of Notre Dame-bashing on these pages, and I can understand most of it. There are plenty of reasons to hate Notre Dame. Here are some of them:

– You were raised that way.

– You’re from Michigan.

– You’re from Purdue.

– You hate Lou Holtz.

– You hate their arrogant fans.

– You’re sick of that fight song.

– You hate the overblown media coverage.

– You hate their BCS arrangement.

– You hate their TV contract.

All of the above.

OK, fine. But when you make fun of Notre Dame’s schedule, I have to step in and defend it.

Notre Dame isn’t in a conference. When they play Air Force or Army, those are like their non-conference games. Their “conference” games are against BCS teams like Michigan, Purdue, Michigan State, Penn State, USC, UCLA, etc. That schedule this year was rated 19th toughest in the nation.

They also have an agreement to play Navy every year. So what? Michigan has an agreement to rotate games (always at Michigan) against Central, Eastern and Western Michigan. But nobody complains about that easy win every year.

Irish bashers seem to think Notre Dame has to play a top 20 team every week, but nobody else does. So go ahead and hate Notre Dame, just get your facts straight.
