This Year I Will …

How to Finally Change a Habit, Keep a Resolution, or Make a Dream Come True

by M.J. Ryan (Broadway, $15.95)

Each new year we make resolutions and by Feb. 1, if not sooner, those once-sincere vows mostly have been forgotten. This year, let author, speaker and executive coach M.J. Ryan guide you on a path to make those resolutions come true.

1. Resolutions are sure to fail if you don’t make a serious commitment, are vague about what you want, if you go it alone and/or if you procrastinate.

2. Just because you’ve failed before doesn’t mean you’ll fail again. Use information from experiences and mistakes to make this attempt work.

3. You’ve got to really, really want something to make it happen. If you don’t, you won’t put in the necessary work, sacrifice and persistence.

4. It’s never the perfect time to reach your goal(s), so you might as well start today. There will always be obstacles; it’s your job to fit the resolution into your life.

5. To make your resolution less overwhelming, do it in small steps (lose 5 pounds this month instead of 70 during the next six months, for example). This helps you avoid procrastinating and offers quick rewards.
