Style took center stage at the Harrington College of Design’s benefit at the Grand Hall at Union Station to honor the school’s 75-year history. Designer Shelly Handman, in his trademark black-tie ensemble of a fitted tux and open shirt, thought furniture impresario Judy Niedermaier was “regal and sexy” in her slinky black decollete sheath: “Barbra Streisand would only love to look as good as her.” Designer Janet Blutter Shiff sported a temporary Swarovski crystal tattoo on her arm that she borrowed from her 23-year-old daughter. From all the inquiries she was getting about her gold-dipped, diamond-studded hank of horsehair that twists into a bracelet or necklace (we couldn’t afford it at $19,500), gorgeous Mia Gargiulo of Odegard may well have set the carpet company thinking about entering the jewelry market. But Victor Skrebneski, sporting his customary pocket square, gave us the most to be excited about: He’s debuting his own furniture line next April at a new showroom Niedermaier is opening at the Merchandise Mart.
