David Johnson of Crystal Lake, formerly of Chicago, died Saturday, January 6, at his home. He was the cherished husband of Lorraine; adored father of Leslie (Charles) Heininger, Jan Johnson, Gail (John) Schumacher, David (Teresa) Johnson, Douglas (LaRita) Johnson and Kim (Mark) Dzwonkiewicz; beloved brother to Jean (Edwin) Carlson; loving grandfather to his 13 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. David was born June 12, 1923 in Chicago and was a 1941 graduate of Lane Tech High School. He served with the United States Coast Guard during WWII and was a participant in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. After the war he met and married Lorraine Carlson, the love of his life. After graduating from the Art Institute of Chicago he pursued a career in advertising as a commercial artist. He became Vice-President of Advertising for the national headquarters of IGA Food Stores and later founded and headed DJ Advertising Services in Crystal Lake. He had been an active member of the First Congregational Church of Crys tal Lake and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He lived his life with decency, honesty and compassion towards others. He will be remembered for his love of family, continual cheerfulness and great sense of humor. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
