Bernard Kaplan, 83, died on Jan. 10, 2007 in Greenville, SC. Mr. Kaplan was born in Chicago. He studied mathematics and engineering at the University of Illinois and the University of Chicago before leaving to work as a draughts-man for the for the United States Army during World War II. Mr. and Mrs. Kaplan moved to Greenville in 1991. Mr. Kaplan was Chairman of Curtron Corporation which was located in Traveler’s Rest, SC. In Chicago, he was an active member of the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Art Institute of Chicago, and during his years in Greenville he extended his community involvement serving as a Trustee of the Greenville County Museum of Art, the Peace Center for the Performing Arts, and the Greenville Symphony, where he also served on it’s Advisory Council. An avid golfer, Mr. Kaplan was a member of the Green Valley Country Club in Traveler’s Rest, as well as the Poinsett Club in Greenville. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; and daughter, Karen Kaplan. Graveside Funeral Services Monday, 1:30 p.m. at Kesher Israel Cemetery, Gate 87A, Greenberg Road, south of Roosevelt Road, east of Des Plaines Avenue, Forest Park.
