Out of all the bloodthirsty, brutal dictatorships on the planet, we invaded Iraq when we knew or should have known that deposing its leader would unleash savage ethnic hatreds. As former Secretary of State Colin Powell observed on his way out the door, we broke the place.
Is there a code of conduct for invaders? And if we exit the country amid a bloody civil war which we made possible, isn’t each of us guilty for each Iraqi who will be butchered because we lacked the courage to clean up the mess we, not the Iraqis, created?
