Moving play

Winter always seems to set the stage for your own dramatic tale of tragedy and heroism. Too bad you can’t sell tickets. You can, however, sit in on the dark story of Emily Book, the tragic superhero at the center of the House Theatre’s newest show, “The Sparrow.” Nathan Allen co-wrote and directs the play (he also co-wrote “Dave DaVinci Saves the Universe” last year) about a small-town girl who has telekinetic powers. 8 p.m. Through Feb. 24. See metromix.com for schedule. $10-$22. The House Theatre of Chicago at the Viaduct, 3111 N. Western Ave. 773-251-2195.

Worm up

Just because you’ve got frostbite on the brain, there’s no reason to bury yourself beneath the electric blanket. Have a fiesta at Salud Tequila Lounge in honor of the bar’s third anniversary. Get $2 Sol bottles, $4 Don Julio margaritas and $4 nachos, and dance to live music by Angel in the Solar System and DJ EF. 8 p.m. No cover. 1471 N. Milwaukee Ave. 773-235-5577.

You’re sweet

Shopping, drinking and eating dessert isn’t such a terrible trio. Especially not when it’s for a good cause. Sip, browse and munch your way through the second annual wine and cheesecake benefit at Wine Discount Center with a selection of nine wines, appetizers, dessert and a raffle. Partial proceeds from store sales benefit Mobile CARE Foundation. 7 p.m. $50. 18261/2 N. Elston Ave. 773-890-7130. Tickets: mobilecarefoundation.org.

FRI 1/19

The wheel deal

Do you scoff at friends who refuse to ride their bicycles during the wet winter months? Here’s your chance to practice what you preach: The Chicagoland Bicycle Federation’s Winter Bike to Work Day. Includes T-shirt giveaways, raffle prizes and a complimentary breakfast of warm eats and hot drinks. 7 a.m. Free. Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington St. 312-742-3325.

Bodies of art

The buzz surrounding the new “Body Worlds 2″ exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry has your creative juices flowing (not that you want to see what that looks like in anatomical terms). Take in different bodies of work at ” ‘Don’t Fence Me In’: The Art of Daniel Watson.” The collection of citrus peel mini-sculptures and colored pencil portraits comprises the first wide showing of the California prison inmate’s artwork. Opening reception at 5 p.m. Free. Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, 756 N. Milwaukee Ave. 312-243-9088.

SAT 1/20

Get some class

Foolproof frozen entrees make for easy solo dining, but they’re no help when your trying to impress weekend guests. Noon. $65 per class; $175 for a three-class series. Reservations required. 875 N. Michigan Ave. 312-280-0472.
