The drama enveloping the cast of “Grey’s Anatomy” off the screen boiled over Thursday and ended with series star Isaiah Washington apologizing.
The controversy began in October, when reports indicated Washington had used a homophobic slur to refer to co-star T.R. Knight. It bubbled up again Monday at the Golden Globes, when Washington used the slur to deny he’d used it in October.
Earlier Thursday, ABC issued a statement saying it was “greatly dismayed that Mr. Washington chose to use such inappropriate language” and said his actions “are being addressed.” Separately, gay advocacy group GLAAD demanded an apology from Washington.
In his apology Thursday, Washington acknowledged “repeating the word Monday night.” He called the slur “unacceptable in any context or circumstance.”
