I sincerely hope that U.S. Sen. Barack Obama is able to overcome all of the obstacles that this newspaper raised in “Obama and the long run” (Editorial, Jan. 17). While negative perceptions of people of color still exist in this country, I believe we are ready for the transformation that Obama has put forth. And perhaps that’s because it is better than the alternative we have with the current administration and the tone that has been dictated.

Should U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton enter the race for president as well, it should not be viewed as a difficult problem for Obama.

Instead it would be a perfect example of how far this country has come when a person of color and a woman are both considered viable candidates for the highest office in the land.
