– Fire officials canceled Friday’s shoot for a new Tom Hanks movie after a special-effects assistant was critically injured when a simulated stinger missile exploded. Stars of “Charlie Wilson’s War,” including Hanks and Julia Roberts, were not on set in Downey, Calif., at the time of Thursday’s accident, Fire Capt. Darren Moon said.

– A new Oprah Winfrey book club pick, her first in more than a year, will be revealed next week. “Oprah’s Book Club is back!” reads an announcement e-mailed Friday to Oprah Book Club members. “Set your TiVos and VCRs for Friday, January 26. Oprah will announce her next selection during the show!” Winfrey’s previous choice, made in January 2006, was Elie Wiesel’s Holocaust memoir, “Night.”

– Keri Russell, who starred in TV’s “Felicity,” is expecting her first child this summer, her spokeswoman said Friday. Russell and contractor Shane Deary, both 30, became engaged last year, the publicist said.
