Robert E. Schneider, 71, passed away at his home on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, after a long illness. He leaves behind his wife, Brenda, of 19 years; three sons, Tod (Julie), Kerry (Kathy) and Kenneth (Ann); two granddaughters, Heather and Danielle; a sister, Patricia (John); a niece, Michelle (Brian); and a nephew, John (Barbara). Robert was born on Feb. 4, 1935, in Chicago. He served two years in the 3rd Armored Calvary in Germany and was a telegrapher and radio operator. After discharge, he completed his education and received a B.A., M.A. and other advanced degrees in education and administration. Robert was a teacher, administrator, audio-visual consultant and a high school principal in the Chicago public school system for 38 years. In addition, Robert was a program developer and freelance writer for Disney Studios, CBS and Bell and Howell, and he was an educational media consultant for Venezuela. After retiring in 1992, he made his home in Big Pine Key. He became actively involved in numerous civic organizations and environmental groups. Robert served for six years as the president of the Big Pine Key Civic Association. Robert received numerous awards, honors and recognition for his service and dedication to education, community and the environment. In lieu of flowers, donations and memorial gifts may be sent to Last Stand Environmental Group and the legal fund of the Big Pine Key Civic Association. Services will be held on Jan. 27, 11 a.m. at Shepard of the Hills Lutheran Church, 404 N. Green St., McHenry, IL 60050. 815-385-4030.
