Two Oak Forest elementary schools were put on lockdown Monday for about an hour after local police told the superintendent an armed man was near school grounds.
The suspect turned out to be a teenage boy wearing a camouflage jacket and carrying a BB gun, school officials said.
Supt. Margaret Longo of Oak Forest-based Forest Ridge Elementary School District 142 said students in two of the district’s four schools–Ridge Early Childhood Center and Kerkstra Elementary–were on lockdown until about 2:30 p.m., just after police discovered the boy.
Police did not return calls about the incident. But Longo said authorities told her the youth was about 15 years old and was not considered a threat.
