The Timberwolves fired coach Dwane Casey on Tuesday, one day after Minnesota lost its fourth straight game and only 1 1/2 seasons since he took over.

Casey, in his first head coaching job, was unable to solve the Timberwolves’ inconsistencies and push them back into the thick of the competitive Western Conference, prompting vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale to make the move. Assistant coach Randy Wittman will take over as interim coach.

– Lakers coach Phil Jackson said that forward Lamar Odom (right knee) could return on Friday, while forward Kwame Brown (right ankle) should come back next week.

– Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury (left knee) could be a game-time decision on whether he will play on Wednesday night against the Suns.

– The Kings waived veteran forward Maurice Taylor after 12 games with the club.
