As a former resident of Chicago and a proud New Orleanian, I believe I represent the rest of New Orleans in voicing great disappointment at how numerous Saints fans were treated after Sunday’s game at Soldier Field.
Admittedly the Bears played a good game.
Still this does not negate what the Saints have done this season for the emotional well-being of New Orleans. I am saddened by the cheap shots taken by Bears fans. Making derogatory Katrina jokes is not necessary. Telling New Orleanians to “take a boat home” is not necessary. I was horrified to watch our local ABC news station showing male Bears fans physically attacking, shoving and catcalling female Saints fans who were being interviewed. Where is the good sportsmanship we expected from the reputably friendly city of Chicago? Give me life in post-Katrina New Orleans over Chicago any day.
