Congratulations to the Bears on the win that made them the NFC champions. As Saints fans we all expected good-natured ribbing on both sides of the field, whether fan-to-fan or politician-to-politician.

What we couldn’t have anticipated was the horrific Hurricane Katrina-related insults hurled at our fans while in Chicago.

We are all Americans; however, it appears some would like the divisions of the NFL to extend to our everyday lives. Suggesting that the Bears would crush what Katrina didn’t destroy or that fans would have been better off if they drowned was beyond harsh. It was despicable.

Perhaps some of your readers need clarification. Hurricane Katrina was not a movie. It was real. Our citizens died in our streets and continue to be dehumanized and demoralized by their portrayal in the media as well as apparent public opinion.

We may be battered and bruised, but we can still offer our guests good old Southern hospitality!
