Yes there is a champion and she is Virginia (McCaskey). She is multidimensional, but we only get to see her on Bears’ days. About 18 years ago, my son Matthew organized a soccer club team for William Rainey Harper College. The school team had been dropped about 10 years before. Virginia made a contribution that enabled the team to have its own trainers outfitted for the rigors of the other contact sport.
The following year Harper added men’s soccer as an official team sport and then women’s soon after. If you have enjoyed playing or watching Harper soccer in the northwest suburbs for the last 18 years, thanks go to Virginia for helping a kid find a dream.
