As a neurosurgeon, it was interesting to read the article about doctors receiving kickbacks for MRIs. I have elected to practice medicine without becoming involved in kickbacks or ownership opportunities; however, since the government and insurance companies have drastically reduced payments to doctors, many have tried to find other ways to boost their income.
Gone are the days when just doing your job resulted in good income. We have been squeezed tightly regarding pay without any regard to limiting expenses or risk.
The best professions currently for making money are Hollywood celebrities, professional athletes and politicians. Even a good though not great athlete can make millions of dollars a year.
As with most professions, if doctors were paid what they deserve, there would be less temptation to look elsewhere.
