It looks like the Oscar successes of “Ray” and “Walk the Line” have elevated that genre–and more of music’s icons are in for the biopic treatment.

MTV says Johnny Depp is in early talks for the role of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury for a biopic on the legendary singer.

In other movies, Mike Myers will play Who drummer Keith Moon; Zooey Deschanel will play Janis Joplin, and Kristin Chenoweth is reportedly portraying Dusty Springfield.

And what budding genre would be complete without a parody?

“The 40-Year-Old Virgin” director Judd Apatow and John C. Reilly are pushing a project named “Walk Hard,” MTV says.

“[The film is a] goof on movies like ‘Beyond the Sea,’ ‘Walk the Line,’ ‘Ray,’ ‘The Commitments’ and ‘Great Balls of Fire,’ ” Reilly told MTV.
