RedEye asked readers in Tuesday’s edition: “Do you have a problem with the national media’s criticism of Rex Grossman?” Here are some responses:
“I think the negative publicity that Rex is getting is ridiculous and wrong!! If someone makes a comment about someone’s weight or race people freak out, but the media is allowed to completely rip him apart and compare him to a horrible disaster; say he is the worst Super Bowl quarterback ever, etc. The Bears are in the Super Bowl with Rex as their quarterback. I think people should give him a little credit and lay off of him.” Cheri
“The way the media has been criticizing Rex Grossman all year has gone way to far. I can’t remember any sports athlete who has ever gone through as much criticism as Grossman has, especially one who is about to play in a championship game. … I give Grossman so much more respect as a player and as a human being for the way he’s been handling all that pressure from the media.” Thomas J. Nenoff
“… for all those who want to hold up Grossman and compare him to Peyton Manning, it should be noted–this is Manning’s first trip to the Super Bowl, also. Jim McMahon led the ’85 Bears to the Promised Land, and I defy ANYONE to say HE was a great quarterback. Great QBs don’t win rings, great TEAMS do.” John Walker
“Why aren’t they talking about Peyton–sure he got past the Patriots–on his FOURTH try.” Samantha Muscia, Lombard
