The recent deadly storm that hit Northern Europe was christened Kyrill by three Germans who paid a fee to mark their dad’s 65th birthday. It costs $256 to name a low-pressure system like Kyrill and $385 for the rarer high-pressure systems. The money helps fund Berlin’s Meteorological Institute.
