Barber to carry ball for NBC

To the chagrin of New York Giants fans, Tiki Barber (right) is a man of his word. The famed running back really is retiring, and he’s set to join the NBC family in a deal that will be announced Tuesday. Three network heavyweights–CEO Jeff Zucker, sports Chairman Dick Ebersol and news President Steve Capus–will attend the news conference, in which Barber is expected to be named a news correspondent for the “Today” show and be given a role in NBC’s Sunday night football broadcasts. The 31-year-old Barber, who logged 10 NFL seasons and amassed 15,631 rushing and receiving yards, walked away from a $4.15-million-a-year job with the Giants.

Ex-Flame works out deal with Tigers

The Detroit Tigers on Monday agreed to contract terms with one of their key players: center-fielder Curtis Granderson. The 25-year-old former Illinois-Chicago star had a breakout season in helping the Tigers make the playoffs last year.

Landis book to land around Tour time

Floyd Landis (right) will have a new book out in time for the upcoming Tour de France. “Positively False” is scheduled for publication in late June, ahead of the start of the famed cycling race.
