Mexico’s home mortgage agency made a record 421,745 loans in 2006, a 12 percent increase from the previous year.
The government-subsidized loan agency, known as Infonavit, said in an e-mailed statement it ended the year with a rate of non-performing loans of 4.9 percent.
Infonavit funded 82,251 home loans from Dec. 1 to Jan. 28, already reaching 82 percent of its goal of 100,000 loans in the first 100 days of the administration of President Felipe Calderon, which began Dec 1.
